Workshop Wednesday Canvas Tutorial "Who She Really Was"
This mixed media canvas formed from the idea of finding your own identity, the butterfly symbolising the transformation journey we are all on, focusing on the belief that the journey will be worth it.
I have found when in the natural it seems impossible faith can show you how strong you have become, that you can bloom, be free and sing your own song.
You can be you!
Step 1 Choose your favourite stencils and randomly apply patterns over your canvas with Gesso.
When this is dry, apply spray inks over the stencilling. I have used Kaisermists.
Step 2 Collage torn strips of Music sheet paper to your canvas using Modge Podge |
Step 3 Adhere tissue Paper Flowers cut from paper napkins . I really like to use the Decopage Napkin/Tissue paper Medium for this step
Step 4 Using a music stencil paint in the design using a dry brush and Burnt Umber paint. Also add shading in this colour with an angle brush around your design.
Step 5 Using Texture paste apply your butterfly design onto canvas using a palette knife,
I have also used the stencilled word 'Faith' to the bottom of canvas. Allow to dry.
Step 6 Collage paper butterflies to your canvas. Using a fine tip paint marker(black) or pen, outline the butterflies and add feelers. Use white to highlight the large butterfly. Print out your text on a lazer printer, cut verse into strips and adhere to canvas. Use a Gelato in an accent colour to tint the paper and then outline each text strip with white pen.
This is absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThankyou Hannah!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your beautiful canvas as well as step by step instructions! I think the way you teach this will make it easy for me to follow without having to use exactly what you you used 😊 - allowing me to use bits from my stash 😉.
